I keep on failing to be truly 'monastic'. But I want to explore what it is that keeps the rhythm of worship, the pattern of prayer, throughout the day. I've been through the 'quiet time' phase. That lasted for 30 years. Then I got fed up talking to the wall. Yes, I knew God could hear me, and I knew he answered. But the actual experience of praying and reading the Bible had become lifeless. Then I started praying while walking. That has been good. Prayer became an activity, rather than like gazing at emulsion. Now I've sought the advice of Cistercian monks, who've been doing the prayer thing for a long time. Many centuries, in fact. So I must take on some of their advice. But where do I buy an icon of Christ?
