After a few month's off looking after family. I am back taking ministry engagements. I took the last 12 months off to make caring for my daughter rebekah a prioriy.
the update on beka is
Rebekah Bailey: Summary
Please pray with us and for our daughter Rebekah 13 years old After having a rash for a few days and seeming ok. Rebekah had a blood test on 15th Jan 007, it was discovered that she has bone marrow Failure, Severe Aplastic Anaemia. This is a serious rare disease that develops when the bone marrow fails to produce blood cells. It all has been a massive upheaval to our family.Beka is being treated for Severe Aplastic Anaemia. This is a rare condition - one in a million- in which there is a failure of the bone marrow to produce sufficent blood cells.Rebekahs body is not producing the white blood cells that fight infection ( neutrofils). This makes her totally vulnerable. Helen has finished work to care for Rebekah in hospital. Rebekah's immediate treatments have been red blood cell transfusions and platelets transfusions and IV antibiotics. She has been in the local district hospital and a specialist hospital in London. The "cure" is a bone marrow transplant hich which Rebekah had in August 2007.
We are still in the early days of post transplant treatment. lots of tests, examinations, checks, on-going treatment for the forseable future its all quite intrusive and intense.
Rebekahs bone marrow is less than that of a new born baby so she is still very vunrable and prone to infections that if not dealt with swifty can do a lot of damage and endanger all thats been so painstakingly acheived. The hospital has to monitor
Rebekah for graft versus host disease , this is where her body could reject the new bone marrow. Rebekah will continue to have immune-suppression drugs, that should help prevent this from developing. She won't be able to return to school until 2009 and then only part time. The provision of home tutoring is quite limited but Beka's tutor is really good and kind. Also, we shouldn't realy take Beka to places used by the general public, she is not allowed to use public transport because of infection risks. More details from the medical websites listed below
Thank you for thinking of us as a family during this turbulant time
