Oil brings out the natural grain

My youngest son has been doing some odd jobs for me. One of them was applying teak oil to the wooden table and chairs that we keep outside in our backyard. Apparently you have to put this oil on, because it replaces the natural oils removed by wear, tear and weathering. That made me think. Oil, of course, is a symbol of the Holy Spirit. I mean this most reverently...as he 'applies' his anointing to our lives, he replaces the natural strength and energy that used to make us look so good, but is now lacking and has been shown up for what it is. But his oil seeps into the imperfections and brings out the natural grain. I used to think that in receiving the Holy Spirit, I would become something greater, something 'super'. In actual fact, I become more like I should be. Truly human.
