Silent Night

the original Titel is "Stille Nacht" it comes from Germany/Austria...
played for the first time by Franz Xaver Gruber in 1818 at a small church by Salzburg
(Stille-Nacht-Kapelle in Oberndorf)
Mohr wrote the lyrics, Franz Xaver Gruber the music.

in the old original text there is - Jesus! in deiner Geburt!
that mean Jesus at your birth.

but that has been changed/moved over the decades and been taken out !!!!
isn´t that interresting . that the most poplar christmas Song had in the original 2nd 4th 6th vers always Jesus ... hope it will be add back again.

blessings from germany

klaus

now used Version in Germany

Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht!
Gottes Sohn, o wie lacht
Lieb aus deinem göttlichen Mund,
Da uns schlägt die rettende Stund,
Christ, in deiner Geburt,
Christ, in deiner Geburt.

Originaltext [2]

Stille Nacht! Heilige Nacht!
Gottes Sohn! O! wie lacht
Lieb’ aus deinem göttlichen Mund,
Da uns schlägt die rettende Stund’.
Jesus! in deiner Geburt!
Jesus! in deiner Geburt!

Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht! 1818 führten der Arnsdorfer Dorfschullehrer und Organist Franz Xaver Gruber und der Hilfspriester Joseph Mohr in der Kirche St. Nikolaus in Oberndorf bei Salzburg das Weihnachtslied Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht erstmals auf.
