Description

One of the books that I consider to be most precious and most influential on my journey of faith is 'The Imitation of Christ' by Thomas A Kempis.

He was a German, born near Dusseldorf in 1380, and he spent his life, from the age of fourteen, in Christian community. He then studied and took holy orders, becoming a priest in 1413.

He lived in a Monastic community, and most of his life was devoted to the study of scriptures and to writing.

This song was inspired by chapter 21 from his writings on prayer and inward consolation in 'The Imitation of Christ'.

It was very hard to know how to condense the spirit of this wonderful chapter into two short verses, so I encourage you to read the whole chapter (and indeed the book), as I haven't really done justice to his inspirational words.
